We recognize the fact that the majority of obese patient will require the use of medications to control their weight, just like many diabetics require treatment with insulin to control their blood glucoses. The medications we use as part of our weight loss program are extremely effective in controlling cravings, stress/boredom related eating, and portion control. These appetite suppressants are safe, effective, and Food and Drug Administration approved. They have fewer side effects than the drugs readily dispensed by most doctors to treat high blood pressure, diabetes, and elevated cholesterol levels. While on prescribed appetite suppressants, Dr. Milner closely monitors each patient.
For some patients, anti-depressants can be helpful to control the depression that is leading to uncontrollable eating. For others, treating obsessive –compulsive behaviors with medications is necessary. Finally, there are those patients requiring a combination of medications. Only a trained physician should make these decisions.
